As a neuroscience grad student at Stanford University, he published research in a variety of neuroscience fields, which included the neural correlates of human cognitive processes such as memory and attention, neurogenesis due to exercise and learning in rats, and cellular plasticity in fish. Before becoming a dedicated researcher, Michael was responsible for management of a 15-person cognitive neuroscience lab. As an undergraduate at Princeton University, he built an electroencephalography (EEG) lab, and designed and conducted experiments to explain the biological and behavioral functioning of human attention.
