We love hearing stories about how Lumosity has improved our users’ cognitive abilities and changed their lives. If you have a Lumosity story to share, submit it here: http://www.lumosity.com/testimonials.
Here’s an example of a touching testimonial that we recently received from Dr. David Darbro. Dr. Darbro suffered from a stroke in 2005, and he now uses Lumosity to regain lost mental function.
“Imagine not being able to speak … you are driving home one night when suddenly out of the blue your speech becomes gibberish….then imagine what it would be like to not be able to remember what number comes after 1,2,3,4,…. That description describes what I experienced in 2005. A week or so after I went into atrial fibrillation I had a stroke that hospitalized me.
Ever since that time I have been working to regain lost mental function. Knowing that about my history hopefully allows you to understand my enthusiasm for your program. Lumosity provides me with a guide that is helping me restore lost cognitive function I suffered on that night in July 2005. Lumosity’s method for cognitive improvement contains games that are fun to take; challenge one’s mental performance; and at the same time encourage one to excel and outdo one’s previous best score.
It has been said that “no pain no gain” is as true in training the body as it is in training the brain. I believe there is some truth to that saying, and is why I work diligently taking these exercises daily and drive myself and sweat over them. The investment in time and effort required to blow out the mental cobwebs is yielding rewards. Exercising my brain to improve my mental status provides me with the confidence to go about my life. I know that nothing great is accomplished without hard work. And I also know that “if you don’t use it you will lose it.” I believe the Lumosity mental tests are keeping me from “losing it”. The tests aim at improving skill in attention, memory, speed, mental flexibility, and problem solving. These five basic skills are needed if we are to function well in today’s fast paced life. Not only am I regaining mental skills during my refreshing mental workout, but also my daily progress is documented. This documentation provides an objective measure of my brain’s healing. I can document the fact that I am regaining previously lost mental function. I am most thankful.
As a medical physician who is oriented to wellness I have a passion to help my patients and others regain lost function as I have done. Because mental functioning comprises a huge part of wellness I purpose to recommend your service to my patients and others. In short, the Lumosity method is a program of mental training that provides we members with a delightful way to prepare for whatever challenges life may have in store during our brief pilgrimage above sod. Thank you all for making this service available to us all.”

I was feeling as if I was using my brain in only one direction which was concentrating on seeing patients only. It was as if I was losing my many brain functions because of not using brain enough.
One day I got email from my friend with advice to try the games on Lumosity.com
I tried the games and felt much better. I could focus much better after playing games. My other brain functions also improved.
The improvement is more if we play the games regularly. The effect of the games last long time.
I feel much better and happier since I started playing the games on Lumosity. They are very useful.
I have advised my children also to try the games They also play the games sometimes.
Thank you very much for making available so useful games for people to prepare them to face various challenges in life.

I have suffered a brain injury and have been in cognitive rehab for over 1 year. This program has helped, because I have seen improvement in working memory, attention, and processing speed. I believe the brain can retrain itself with the proper help. I try to do the games daily to keep up the progress. Thank you for all your help.
Warmly,
Mary Ann

Back in 1998 I had a type of brain injury (encephelitis). I still have miner aphasia,
mostly remembering names, numberes and spelling. I need to learn math again also.
I’m glad I found Lumosity, I wish I found it earlear. Life is pretty good know, but if I do my ‘home work’ every day, my life (and brain) will get better. Thankyou.

On the day of my birthday this year, I discovered that I had a brain tumour. It was successfully removed and histopathology tests proved it was benign. I consider myself lucky since two of my roommates in the hospital ward weren’t so lucky. Their brain tumours were malignant with chance of recovery.
Few months prior to my surgery I did become slightly forgetful but put it down to ageing process. Around this time a friend suggested I read a book by Norman Doidge called “The Brain That Changes Itself”. The book inspired me to engage in brain exercises to improve my memory.
I searched the internet and came across the lumocity.com.I enjoyed the exercises and decided to join. I do my program exercises every day and monitor my progress.I’m happy to say, my memory has improved and Lumocity.com will be part of my daily routine for the rest of my life. I enjoy the variety of games available and suggest it to anyone.

I hate to be so candid here, but I presume this website would prefer honest testimonials. I’m a computer science major at a 4 year school, and I’m also a pretty big pothead. I use Lumosity to keep my mind sharp enough to focus on the analytical conundrums that I’m often faced with in my field of study; without the general lag that the after-effects of smoking leaves me with. I’ve used a few other websites for this goal; but Lumosity certainly seems to be the most ambitious of the lot.

My job requires speedy recall and I find that the older I get, the worse it gets. I am trying to slow the process with some exercise. Just joined so the results are still out. Having fun in the process though.

I have read over the many testimonies, of many that had suffered with Strokes,Brain concussions, Aneurysms. I am very amazed of the testimonies. I feel that reading psychology, based books after that you have encountered these type of Dilusions, will make ones brain stimula, feel more relaxed. It is helping to aid the brain to function at a soothing Pace. I hope this info:will be a helping aid.
Sincerely,

I suffered right frontal lobe damage from a stroke back in 2000. I received enough occupational, speech and physical therapy to get back to a fairly normal life. But I have continuing deficits I compensate for and have come to accept will be with me permanently. Recently cognitive rehab therapy became available to me and one of the therapists recommended Luminosity as homework. I get totally involved in your games enjoying them immensely. Maybe too involved. At times I’ve begun to suspect your programmers are moving those darn birds around before I can click on them, and Top Chip makes me SOOOO Mad! One of these days I’m going to reach through the screen and strangle that stupid monkey
Achieving a personal best on any of the games give me feeling of accomplishment while having the BPI graphs gives me a sense of progress. Giving one of those chimps a thrashing sufficient to move me to the next level gives me sense of satisfaction for a couple days. Thanks so much for some fun and a great therapy tool.

I’m having great difficulty with many of the games, especially the ones that involve memorizing. I hate to say it, but the frustration keeps me away from those games. I choose the word games instead. I like challenges, I just don’t like feeling inadequate because I cannot remember patterns and sequences like “normal” people can. I don’t have traumatic brain injury, just ADD, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder.

I wish there were games to promote creativity as well. I’m an artist, but it takes me 15 hours to start the line drawing of a still life as opposed to the 15 minutes it takes for my art teacher and about half an hour for most students. My eyes will see an object, but my brain seems to argue with what my eyes saw, and it takes me 3 to 5 times longer to start a drawing than most students in my art class. It’s frustrating.
