The Lumosity Research Platform is a purpose-built system for cognitive research that brings together cognitive assessments and questionnaires, cognitive training interventions, participant recruitment, and real-world data in one place.

The platform is available to research organizations across all sectors — academia, industry, non-profit, government — and disciplines:

• Academic researchers — design and conduct cognitive studies using validated assessments, interventions, recruitment, and real-world data.
• Pharma, biotech and med device — support clinical research, provide trusted cognitive endpoints, and accelerate participant recruitment.
• Healthcare — measure and track cognition and cognitive health across patient populations.
• Nonprofit research — access research infrastructure without having to build these capabilities.

The Lumosity Research Platform supports three broad types of study:

• Intervention research — clinical trials and other intervention studies at any stage, from feasibility through post-market, using cognitive assessments and participant-reported questionnaires as outcome measures, digital cognitive training as the intervention, or both.
• Prospective observational research — evaluation of cognitive performance, learning, and other aspects of cognition alongside surveys and participant characteristics.
• Real-world data analysis — big data analyses of real-world use of Lumosity and the NCPT, with demographics and other participant characteristics.

The platform brings together four core capabilities: surveys and cognitive assessments, including the NeuroCognitive Performance Test (NCPT); cognitive training interventions, including configurable training protocols; participant recruitment from Lumosity's opt-in participant community; and real-world data, including analysis-ready, de-identified custom data extracts.

Yes. The Lumosity Research Platform can support clinical trials through its cognitive assessments, cognitive training interventions, and participant recruitment.

Researchers can recruit participants from Lumosity's opt-in participant community using demographic and cognitive criteria.

How research data is collected and stored depends on which Research Platform tool is being used:

• Cognitive assessments and cognitive training — — participants use anonymous accounts, so no personally identifiable information is stored or required by the platform. Researchers are responsible for distributing individual accounts to each of their participants. These accounts are managed separately from consumer Lumosity accounts.
• Real-world data — — data from real-world Lumosity use is de-identified.
• Participant recruitment — — participation is opt-in.

The Human Cognition Project (HCP) is Lumosity's collaborative research initiative, which includes studies run by qualified academic and not-for-profit researchers. HCP collaborators can access the Research Platform for free or at a discounted price. The Research Platform is a set of tools used in research studies regardless of whether those studies are part of the HCP.

Yes. The NCPT has been characterized and validated in more than 130,000 healthy participants (Morrison et al., 2015) and in clinical populations, including mild cognitive impairment (Doraiswamy et al., 2022). Normative data from over 750,000 adults with demographic-adjusted percentiles is openly published in Scientific Data (Jaffe et al., 2022).
