Think about proofreading a message before you hit send. Read too quickly and you'll miss errors; read too slowly and you'll never get through your inbox. The interesting part is that your brain can learn to be both faster and more precise, the tradeoff isn't fixed. With practice, you can push the boundary so that your 'fast' gets more accurate and your 'careful' gets quicker.
