Exercise & Your Brain

Why moving your body helps your mind

Regular aerobic activity is one of the most consistent predictors of long-term brain health. It increases blood flow to the brain, supports cardiovascular health that the brain depends on, and is associated with slower loss of brain volume as you age. The cognitive gains from a single workout are small and not always detectable, but sustained activity over years shows clearer benefits, especially for maintaining brain structure in late adulthood.

In real life...

Aim for consistency over intensity. Most of the benefit comes from moving regularly rather than training hard. A 30-minute brisk walk most days of the week is a reasonable target for brain health, and something you'll actually keep doing beats a perfect plan you'll abandon in a month.
