ACROSS THE LIFESPAN

Senior Moments vs Real Decline

When forgetting is normal, and when it's not

Forgetting where you parked or blanking on an acquaintance's name can feel alarming. But these 'senior moments' are usually just normal aging at work. The key distinction is between forgetting details (normal) and forgetting entire events or losing the ability to learn new information (worth investigating). Understanding this difference can save you a lot of unnecessary worry.

In real life...

If you're worried about your memory, keep a simple log for a few weeks. Note what you forget and whether it comes back to you later. Retrieval failures that resolve on their own are normal. Gaps where the information never resurfaces, especially for recent events, are worth bringing up with your healthcare provider.
