Sleep & Your Brain

What happens while you're asleep

Sleep isn't downtime. It's the most cognitively productive stretch of your day. While you sleep, your brain consolidates what you learned, clears out metabolic waste (including proteins linked to Alzheimer's), and resets the emotional circuitry that helps you stay regulated the next day. Even one night of poor sleep measurably impairs memory formation, attention, and decision-making. You often won't notice it in yourself, though the people around you will.

In real life...

Treat the last hour before bed as a bridge to memory consolidation. Dim the lights, step away from screens, and let your nervous system start winding down. The information you worked hard to absorb today gets locked in tonight, or not at all.
